He refuses to accept patients who want to pay cash if they have Medicaid. Literally just sends them packing without making a plan. He does accept cash payments from everyone else though. Just don't get sick and lose your job, and temporarily be on Medicaid and you'll be a good patient to him.
Several months - not much progress. Never saw the doctor and never was informed of any of his input or oversight. Felt like I was getting nowhere.
Dr. Thorkelson is great, however, it is not possible to see him. He has hired nurse practitioners who are nowhere near as skillful as he is, and those are the only providers you can schedule an appointment with. You are better off looking elsewhere. It is also important to note the practice only accepts very mildly ill patients who are basically functioning pretty well and rejects all others.
Practitioners are fine, but office staff make it plain that this place is 110% all about separating you from your money. Called to cancel an appt and they never told my practitioner, then informed me I'll need to pay 220$ out of pocket to continue care. Punative and disorganized...there are better options in Pittsburgh.
We called to get a much-needed appointment for our child, and we filled out the online intake forms. The office did not respond for weeks. When we called back, they promised to get back to us that day. Several days later we received a bizarre letter saying our daughter could not be seen there and that we should not call them to ask why. A doctor who allows this level of incompetence in the front office is probably not good value.
Don’t waste your time. They don’t offer therapy to treat your concerns. They just refer you to someone else. Their website is misleading, they’re very expensive and not worth the time or effort,
Completely unprofessional and severely inept office and staff. Had tried to get my son who is on the spectrum help from this "Doctor". Left a few messages even faxed and had his current doctor and social worker call. Nothing not w word in over two months time. Must be nice to not need business or have something called professionalism or respect for others too. If he runs his office like this can only imagine the entitlement issues he has.
I setup an appointment with Dr. Thorkelson and was charged $325 for one hour wherein I repeated all the information he already had from my medical records. Due to the complexity of my case, Dr. Thorkelson, thought it would be best for me to see another psychiatrist more equipped to handle my medical needs. It seems to me that he is more adept at working with children or teenagers than adults. He seems only interested in simple and quick solutions to make easy money. Stay away.
very inexperienced psychiatrist and I didn't appreciate his "sense of humor"
